What are the Benefits of Studying the Bible?

Studying the Bible can be overwhelming in certain seasons of our lives. It has been in mine! Right now, some of you may have little’s at home or have become the mom taxi for ‘all the things’. Some of you may be working full-time+ or have dual jobs. And some of you may not know where to start studying the Bible or wonder if it’s that important. My friend, It is. It is very important. Look at this verse in Matthew 5:6 “Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires.” And what does God require? Drawing close to Him. The most important way we can draw close to Him is studying the Bible. And when we do this, we are gifted with blessed benefits.

1. Guidance

The Bible provides guidance for making important decisions and navigating the challenges of life. By studying the Bible, we can discover God’s wisdom and gain insights that help us make wise choices.

2. Spiritual Growth

Not only do we experience guidance but also studying the Bible helps us grow spiritually by deepening our relationship with God. The Scriptures reveal God’s character, love for us, and plan for our lives. As we study, we learn more about who God is and how we can live in a way that pleases Him. Which brings us to our next benefit.

3. Moral Compass

The Bible serves as a moral compass, providing a clear standard of right and wrong. By studying the Bible, we can develop a strong foundation of values and principles that guide our behavior and attitudes. What a blessing to gain this benefit because it helps us with life!

4. Encouragement and Comfort

Certainly, life can be challenging, and we all face times of difficulty and uncertainty. Studying the Bible can provide comfort and encouragement as we find hope in God’s promises. His Word reminds us of His faithfulness and offers comfort in times of need.

5. Transformation

This last benefit in our list is that the Bible has the power to transform our lives. As we study and meditate on its teachings, we are challenged to live differently. The Holy Spirit works within us to shape our character and conform us to the image of Christ.

Now that we’ve looked at five of the benefits of applying the study of the Bible in everyday life, it is helpful to establish a routine for reading and reflection. Find a time and place where you can focus without distractions. If you have young children, perhaps read the portion out loud to them! Be creative; think outside the box. You can start with a specific book or topic and explore it in depth over days or weeks given your particular time constraints. Consider how the principles and teachings can be applied to your thoughts, words, and actions.

A couple of options to get you started. Both sites will point you in the right direction on your journey to draw closer to Him.
